What is the Registry?
The Public Authority Registry helps IHSS Recipients connect with pre-screened IHSS Providers and helps eligible IHSS Providers find jobs. To be eligible for this service, recipients must already be on the IHSS program and providers must already have passed the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.
For Recipients:
Who is eligible?
In order to benefit from the Public Authority Registry services, recipients must already be signed up with the IHSS program. If you are not already signed up with the IHSS program, please call the IHSS intake line at (510) 577-1800 to see if you are eligible and to request an application or go to IHSS Program Page for more information.
How the Public Authority Registry works for Recipients!
The Public Authority Registry works to connect you, the recipient, with eligible providers who can help you inside your home. Skilled Registry Specialists can help you in your search for providers who can best accommodate your needs.
The Registry uses a sophisticated computer program that was developed especially for these matching purposes. The information that you, the recipient, gives the Registry Specialist(s) about your needs and preferences is essential in finding the best match for your particular situation. With this information, the Registry Specialist(s) can generate a list of up to 8 providers who fit your criteria and who have already passed the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.
It is your responsibility to call the providers on this list to see who the best match may be. If, after the first list, you still have not been successful in finding the right match for you, the Registry can continue generating more lists based on your information until you have been successful in your search.
If needed, the Registry Specialists can send you valuable reference information on how best to manage your provider(s) and refer you to more Recipient training opportunities.
Although the Registry staff is able to provide you assistance, you are the provider’s employer, and you have the responsibility for hiring, training, supervising and – if need be – firing your providers.
